Information
Overview of ICC

This section introduces the topic of intercultural communication for language teaching and learning in a digital world.

Changes in methods of communication, such as computer-mediated communication and collaborative technologies, have shifted the kinds of skills and social practices one must develop in order to be a productive member of a globalised society.

New forms of communication have facilitated globalised, online spaces where linguistically and culturally diverse participants interact with one another.  Participation in these spaces transforms the ecology of language learning into a sociocultural process.  Language learners can autonomously capitalise on learning opportunities offered by these new contexts, using online spaces to create new multilingual contexts within the language learning environment.

New dimensions of reading, writing, and communication create new learning needs, including digital literacy and intercultural competence, which can be addressed through language education.
