Time Across Cultures

The concept of “time” expresses a cultural perspective that is critical to gaining intercultural communicative competence. How it is viewed varies between cultures, and sometimes even how it is ordered (ex. past, present, future). To fully understand the target culture, one must be familiar with how time is seen and spoken about in the target language.

The Webquest below provides a list of tasks involving “time”:

Task 1: Proverbs (Estimated time: 25 minutes)

Task 2: Collocates (Estimated time: 30 minutes)

Task 3: Wordclouds (Estimated time: 25 minutes)

Task 4: Telecollaboration (Estimated time: 40 minutes)

Time Across Cultures is designed for English language learner level B1+, but may be adaptable for other languages, and learner levels.
