Listening
Podcasts for language learning

Podcasts offer a wealth of information on a huge variety of topics. Learners of a foreign language may find the choice overwhelming and the language used may be difficult and off-putting.

There are, however, many podcasts available specifically for language learners. These may contain simplified or slowed down language, and cultural information that would be useful for non-native speakers of the language.

Podcasts can usually be downloaded or streamed so that learners can access them easily. Many podcasts for language learners will also offer a transcript of the text.

On completion of this task, you will be able to

  • practice your listening skills with regard to content and language forms
  • describe cultural information relating to their target language-speaking country

Procedure

Follow the instructions for your target language. You may have to login to access some resources. We advise that you listen to at least one episode per week. This will give you approximately 100 minutes of target language input over one semester.
