Overview – Language Learning at third level

Language learners cannot learn the four skills of language learning without having the opportunity to listen and speak the language.

The use of the target language (TL) in the classroom increases your exposure to the TL, which is particularly important where the TL is not normally heard outside of the classroom context.

Many third level teachers of language at Irish universities come from very different learning contexts to those of their students and the level of TL spoken in the classroom differs from classroom to classroom.

This sudden exposure to the increased level of native speaking may seem overwhelming at first.  This section offers you practical advice and self-directed activities to help you improve your language skills, and increase your usage of TL.
